ArticlesSETI - Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence I heard about the SETI program and thought "I should join this thing... just for fun." When I heard about it, my computers were a little smaller and not near as powerful as they are now. I still don't have a super computer, but who knows what the future might bring. :-) There I was... just prowling the Internet and thinking about some setup to some things on the computers and such. The thought hits me! "I'm going to have a DSL connection soon, the computers here are idle quite a bit.... Why not check into this again?" The Fidonews Editor and 1:124/6308 are now part of the SETI program. Yes, I know it's probably not going to find ET or anything else, but what the heck. It's interesting and doesn't seem to hurt anything on my systems... AND... I discovered that there is a group in the SETI program for Fidonet! :) Well... Of course there is a group for Fidonet in SETI. Fidonet has been around for a while. We are a diverse bunch and are computer nuts. :) Fidonet is known for being helpful and we're all good people. Why shouldn't there be a Fidonet group in something like this? Why should you join? Maybe you shouldn't... that's up to you. I did discover that if you join one of the groups, you can have a link to your web page with your name in the group for other visitors to click on. Heck, it's free advertising. There's no requirement for you to continue in the program... you can leave when you want. It's kind of fun to watch the data being crunched on your computer. The data is only processed when the screen saver is running. Besides... You might find ET. :-)) Jump over to the SETI web page at http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu and see what you think. Check in the "Groups" area and do a search for Fidonet. You'll find the "Web Idiot" there at, or close to, the bottom of the list. :) Taken from the Internet A group of Geography students studied the Seven Wonders of the World. At the end of that session, the students were asked to list what they considered to be the Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was some disagreement, the following got the most votes:
While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a quiet little girl hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The quiet girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind, because there were so many." The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help." The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are...
She hesitated a little, and then
It is far too easy for us to look at the exploits of man and refer to them as "wonders" while we overlook all TRUE WONDERS, taking them for granted as merely "ordinary." May you be reminded today of those things which are truly wondrous in our lives. Ol'wdb |
