Net NewsNet News - Net121 Hello All, There are some changes occuring within net 121. With the recent elections (if you can call it that), I will be taking over duties as NC for net 121. I believe that net 121 is one of the oldest surviving nets within Region 11. Please correct me if I'm wrong here. There is plenty of work to do to automate things, but progress is being made daily. As recently as five years ago, we had 36 members within our net. Today, we are down to just three nodes. A far cry from just a few years ago. Hopefully, I got an idea that may change all of that. I've already started collecting older computers (garage sales, second hand stores, friends, ect.), and refurbishing them with modems, mail reader software, ect., and donate them to some unfortunate older child along with some basic operating instructions. Get them interested and involved with Fidonet. So what if they can't get onto the internet. Let these young people know there is another network out there that they can join besides the internet that is family orientated. A major local business has recently agreed to donate their old computers as they are rotated out of their network. Between these and local word of mouth, I hoped to gain at least a few members. The habits they learn now may very well stick with them through out their lives. Imagine, active Fidonet members in the twenty second century! If nothing else, it keeps these old computers out of some landfill. My time and expenses are being financed out of my own pockets at the moment. Any contributions (any amount) is always appreciated and will be used towards this purpose. Let's all help to keep Fidonet going. Thanks, Donations: |
