EditorialOkay fido folks, now is the time to become involved in the restoration of fidonet policy. You have talked, cried, moaned and bitched about it in echoes from "hell to breakfast" in past ten or so years. The "ignore it completely" group cannot be right as that would leave us with no discipline and structure. That would leave us like a dead Christmas tree with node (ornaments) falling like autumn leaves. That just must not come to be. The "modify parts of it" group, (in my mind), have the best opportunity right now to start some real constructive dialog. The first thing in the business world would be to find a qualified person to "Chair" the project and define it for all to be able to see a way to reconstruct. Also, that Chairperson could simultaneously develop a Zone One policy that would dovetail and fit perfectly with the newly reconstructed policy. All buildings, laws, policies, etc. need maintenance and reconstruction after a decade of service; they too need service, a new coat of paint after a good retrofit. So that your efforts to contribute to this effort are visible to all, thus helping others with their ideas and phraseology, I propose to open a "Policy Reconstruction" section of Fidonews in future weekly issues, for all to see submittals. All submittals would be addressed to the Chairperson, and CC'd to editor at 1:1/23 or wdbonner@pacbell.net for the "PR section". This function of the Snooze may help negate duplications and reflect changes already proposed, as well as adding new proposals. Since any changes to policy must be ratified by all Zones, and because we are working in zone one, would not it be prudent for the Z1C to appoint that "Chair-person"? Until that is accomplished in some manner, there is no starting place. I urge all to read carefully Frank's `Guest Editorial' this week. In fact I think Frank would be an excellent Chairman!
