Control Non-Issues
Douglas Myers, 1:270/720, doug@mdtnbbs.com

This isn't about control... at least that's what I keep hearing as the mail movers go about revising the echomail system. This isn't about control, it's just a realignment to reflect market conditions.

As yet another document which isn't a policy but which specifies what one must do goes into distribution, I'm told that this isn't about control - it's just setting standards.

A moderator threatens to withdraw his echoes from one of the newly formed backbones, and then changes his mind. It is quickly pointed out that the backbone made no concessions here, but this isn't about control.

After an argument over which version of an echotag to carry on the splintered backbones, one of the zhubs is cut from distribution of all echoes. Due to the interconnected topology of the zhubs, this results in duplicates being fed back to the cutter, who will presumably need to cut another zhub to compensate. This obviously isn't about control.

Reports are coming in from various nodes about missing echomail. I've seen quoted material myself where I never saw the original, and I believe I've seen some messages twice. This is patently not about control.

Perhaps the above problems are glitches or are already being corrected as I write this - or perhaps we can expect more in the future as the mail movers attempt increasingly complex organizations to determine who's not in control.

What's been demonstrated so far is that no one is in control so long as they refuse to work with each other.

ED: And what does this all mean? Just what I have written above. By contineous fighting about getting control, people are 'killing' each other off like flies, reducing that at the end of it all, you will have a few power hungry *C's wanting to be top dog, but no bone to pick on.
